Base Plates 152mm
Description
Base plates (also known as tin lids or dinner plates) are support disks placed beneath plastic-tipped metal bar chairs to prevent the chairs from sinking into soft or sandy ground under the weight of heavy reinforcing steel.
They serve three primary functions in reinforced concrete applications;
Prevent Sinkage: By increasing the footprint of the bar chair, they distribute the load of the rebar over a wider surface area. This stops the legs from digging into soft ground, ensuring the steel remains at the correct height.
Protect Membranes: On jobsites utilizing a polyethylene vapor barrier or waterproof membrane, the sharp legs of a wire bar chair can easily puncture the plastic. Base plates provide a flat, smooth barrier to protect these vulnerable films from tearing.
Maintain Even Concrete Cover: Sinking chairs cause the reinforcing mesh or bar to sag, which results in uneven and inadequate concrete cover. Base plates secure the chair's position, ensuring uniform and compliant concrete coverage.
