Description
Reinforcing Ligatures, also known as stirrups or fitments, are pre-bent steel reinforcing bars used to hold longitudinal reinforcement together and form rigid reinforcement cages for beams, columns, footings and residential slab applications.
ICR Concrete Supplies can provide a full range of ligatures manufactured from deformed reinforcing bar, with common square and rectangular configurations available in 10mm Grade R250N steel.
*Other shapes and sizes can also be manufactured to order.
Ligatures are particularly useful when constructing beam and column reinforcement cages, as well as separating the top and bottom layers of trench mesh in residential footing and slab applications.

Key Features:
Manufactured from R250N deformed reinforcing bar
Supplied in bundles of 10
Square and rectangular configurations available
10mm Diameters
Manufactured to AS/NZS 4671
Pre-bent and ready for installation
Helps maintain reinforcement spacing and positioning
Suitable for forming reinforcement cages
Designed for use with reinforcing bar and trench mesh

Desired achievement:
✓Cage Construction.
Ligatures hold longitudinal reinforcing bars together at the required spacing, creating a rigid reinforcement cage for beams, columns and footings.
✓Trench Mesh Separation.
In residential footing and slab construction, ligatures can be used to separate and support the top and bottom layers of trench mesh, helping maintain the specified reinforcement arrangement during the concrete pour.
✓Shear & Structural Support.
In reinforced beams and columns, appropriately designed stirrups help resist shear forces and torsional stresses while keeping the main reinforcing bars correctly positioned.
✓Bar Stability.
Ligatures help restrain longitudinal reinforcement and reduce movement or buckling of the bars within the reinforcement cage.

Common Applications:
Residential footings
Strip footings
Concrete beams
Columns
Reinforcement cages
Trench mesh separation
Residential slabs
Commercial construction
Structural concrete applications

🔮ICR Pro Tip.
Don't underestimate the humble ligature! A reinforcement cage is only as useful as its ability to stay in the correct position during the pour. Ligatures help hold the main bars together and maintain the geometry of the cage, making them an essential part of properly detailed beam and column reinforcement.
And if you're looking at a reinforcement schedule and see something like “R250N ligatures”, don't panic — that's simply telling you the required grade and type of steel used to manufacture the fitment. The shape, dimensions, diameter and spacing, however, should always come from the engineer's drawings.
