By keeping reinforcement elevated and stable before and during placement of concrete, combination bar chairs help maintain the reinforcement position specified for the slab.

🔮ICR Pro Tip.
Don't let your reinforcement end up on the bottom of the slab! One of the most common mistakes with slab reinforcement is assuming the mesh will magically stay where it was placed once the concrete starts going in.
Bar chairs are there to support the reinforcement at the designed height, but they still need to be positioned correctly and remain stable during the pour. For slab-on-ground work, always follow the engineer's specified reinforcement position, bar-chair height and concrete cover rather than choosing a chair height based solely on slab thickness.
