What is the Fauxtex Spray On Colour Hardener System?
The Fauxtex Spray On Colour Hardener System is the latest way to introduce a decorative finish to freshly placed concrete. The colour is sprayed onto the surface the same day the new pavement is installed.

What is the Fauxtex Spray On Colour Hardener System?
The Fauxtex Spray On Colour Hardener System is the latest way to introduce a
decorative finish to freshly placed concrete. The colour is sprayed onto the
surface the same day the new pavement is installed.
What are the benefits of Fauxtex Spray On Colour?
It is faster to install than traditional methods, therefore less labour is
required. It also can result in neater stencil edges and it is easier to produce
a consistent, textured finish.
What is the difference between Fauxtex Spray On and dry cast colour?
They look different and the way they are installed is different.
Dry cast colour is applied to the surface as a dry powder and is worked into the
concrete. The texture for dry cast colour is determined by how the surface is
trowelled. Fauxtex SprayOn is made into a wet mixture and sprayed onto the
surface. Texture is achieved with the spray.
Can I use Cover-tex on new concrete?
No. Cover-tex is designed to be applied to suitable concrete that has been in
place for 28 days or longer. Cover-tex on new or younger surfaces would be
expected to have adhesion and performance issues.
Can Fauxtex Spray On Colour be used on existing pavements?
No. Spray On Colour is intended to be used only on new concrete the day it is
poured. Applying it to existing or cured surfaces would be expected to result in
delaminating. Use Cover-tex to resurface existing concrete. Existing concrete
can be resurfaced with the Cover-tex resurfacing product.
Why can’t I just use Fauxtex Colour Hardener instead of Spray On Base?
The Fauxtex Colour Hardener and Fauxtex Spray On BASE have different
formulations. The Spray On BASE has specially designed and selected polymers
that make it easier to spray and that help it bond and behave correctly. Also
the sand grading is different in the Spray On Base (even compared to the Fine
Mix Colour Hardener). If Colour Hardener is used instead of the Spray On BASE
adhesion and long term performance would be expected to suffer. Also if Colour
Hardener is used it may be harder to spray and can also lead to more chipping
when the stencil is removed. In short, don’t use Colour Hardener in Stead of
Spray On BASE.
What does the Fauxtex Spray On system consist of?
The system has three components:
Fauxtex Spray On Colour Hardener BASE (15kg bag)
Fauxtex Bonding Agent (10L pail)
Colour Dispersant (1kg bag)
How does Fauxtex Spray On differ to Cover-tex?
Although they appear to be quite similar at first glance, Cover-tex and Fauxtex
Spray On are different products with different formulations. Because they are
designed for different tasks they have very different properties. Cover-tex is
designed to bond to existing surfaces and so has very different polymers or
“glues” in it. Fauxtex Spray On needs to go “into” the new concrete rather than
just to stick to it. This makes a more suitable bond. Other than the Colour
Dispersant the Cover-tex and Fauxtex Spray On system components are different
and are not interchangeable.
What equipment is needed?
In addition to the normal tools and equipment used to install concrete a hopper
gun and compressor are used to spray the product. Other equipment includes a
drill with mixing paddle and a bucket to mix the products.
How many colours can I choose from?
Fauxtex Spray On Colour is available in all 30 colours in the standard Fauxtex
colour range.
Are all the current stencils able to be used?
All the stencils in our range can be used with this system. There are 36
patterns, 6 headers a compass, star and diamond in our standard range. Custom
logos can be manufactured for special projects.
How many coats are needed?
The Fauxtex Spray On Colour is usually a one coat application.
Can I get any special effects or multiple colours?
Yes. One of the advantages of this system is that fleck can be easily
introduced. Different size fleck with different coverage and multiple colours is
easy to do. Why not customise the job to suit the house or surrounds?
What is the approximate coverage?
A properly prepared batch is normally expected to cover 10-15m². The exact
coverage will depend on thickness, wastage rates and other on-site factors.
Fleck batches cover about 100m².
Should I seal it?
Yes. Sealing will aid cleanability and often enhances the colour. Fauxtex Spray
On Colour is usually sealed with Decorative Technologies Same Day Sealer on the
day it is installed. It can then be sealed later with Decorative Concrete Sealer
or High Build Sealer. Periodic resealing is recommended when needed.
What sort of texture does Fauxtex Spray On have?
The final texture will depend on the spray technique but it is usually a
textured finish. It can be installed to produce a consistent surface with
improved slip reducing characteristics.
Will the product delaminate or wear prematurely?
It is not expected to delaminate when applied correctly. Applying at the right
time, in suitable weather conditions with the correct mixing ratios and coverage
rates, will help reduce possible delaminating. Do not use products that are not
part of the Fauxtex Spray On Colour Hardener System as they are formulated to
work together and reduce the chances of delaminating. The system is designed for
domestic use only and when applied correctly is not expected to wear prematurely
under normal in-service conditions.
What do I need to get started and how much will it cost?
Hopper Gun, compressor (minimum 15CFM), drill and mixing paddle, measuring jug,
clean bucket and dust mask. Decorative Technologies has a starter kit, excluding
the compressor and drill available for purchases at our branches, agents and
distributors. Contact your local outlet to place an order. For the compressor
and electric drill we recommend Blackwoods.
How does this improve my profits?
Your savings come from less labour required and the excellent coverage rate.
After the concrete is installed the stencil laid there is no need for a team of
four, two can finish the remainder of the job quickly with no loss of work
quality. The product and labour costs therefore work out cheaper by the square
metre.
